Laura the explora: the blog

be camera happy :)

One of my favorite things to do while traveling is to take pictures of literally anything and everything; whether it be a flower, my lunch, a building, or a crowd of people.

I believe everyone should get into photography and here are a few reasons why…

Regents Park (London)

(1) to preserve important moments in your life

Each picture says a thousand words and it isn’t likely our minds can recall all the experiences and sights we encounter while we’re out exploring. Capturing a photo is like putting a piece of your adventure into a time capsule to be remembered for years to come.

(2) to communicate with others

There are so many different languages out there which makes it difficult to share with those from other places in the world. One image can tell someone things we cannot always express verbally.

(3) to remember the little things

So many details. Like lighting. Colors. The emotion in someone’s face. How delicious that cup of coffee looked before the first sip. Or that breathtaking view from the top of a mountain. These are all things our mind may release over time. Pictures help to preserve these moments forever, bring the past to the present, and perhaps inspire us to continue to explore more in the future.

(4) to share with our loved ones back home

Going on that next trip alone? The more pictures you take, the more you’ll have to share with your favorite people when you get back home. Bonus points for keeping them in the loop by sending a quick photo from the road (much like a modern-day post card!).

(5) to see the beauty in the world

Because the world really IS beautiful beyond words. Even the most unappealing of things can be beautiful in the right light! It helps us to notice the little details in all their glory.

(6) to express yourself

Photography is art. It is a great outlet to express yourself, just like the clothes you wear (and this guy!). I take a lot of pictures of food and nature. Some enjoy capturing architecture, abstract things or emotions. No matter what your favorite thing is to snap, it is what YOU like. And no one can ever take that away from you.

Remember, there’s no such thing as taking TOO MANY pictures. 😉
